These systems work in conjunction with centrifugal pumps to transport water (or other liquid) from A to B. Centrifugal pumps, while effective at pumping liquid, are unable to pump air. This means that when pumps are taken offline for maintenance or other reasons, they need to be refilled with liquid before they can function properly. And this is where the vacuum priming system comes in, used to suck water into the pump, allowing it to then start.
